Truecaller to Discontinue Call Recording on iPhones from September 30 — Here’s How to Save Your Data

If you’re an iPhone user who relies on Truecaller’s call recording feature, it’s time to take action. Truecaller has officially announced that it will stop supporting the call recording feature on iOS devices starting September 30, 2025.

The decision was taken as part of the company’s strategy to shift focus toward enhancing other iOS features such as Live Caller ID and automatic spam call blocking. These updates are being prioritized to deliver better value to iPhone users, especially as native call recording capabilities are being introduced by Apple itself.

Why Is Truecaller Removing Call Recording on iPhones?

Call recording was introduced to iOS users in June 2023 but came with its own set of challenges. Since Apple doesn’t allow third-party apps to access its call recording functionalities directly, Truecaller had to implement a workaround using a “recording line” that merges with the ongoing call.

While innovative, this method added technical complexity and raised operational costs for Truecaller. Over time, maintaining this feature on iPhones became inefficient, especially with Apple now rolling out its own version of native call recording in newer iOS versions.

On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), several users recently shared screenshots of in-app notifications alerting them about the discontinuation. The message clearly stated:

“We are discontinuing the Call Recording feature on Truecaller for iPhone.”

The alert also urged users to download or export their existing recordings before September 30, as the data will be deleted after that date.

How to Save Your Truecaller Call Recordings Before They’re Gone

If you’ve used the call recording feature on your iPhone via Truecaller, here’s a step-by-step guide to save your recordings:

  1. Open the Truecaller App: Launch Truecaller on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the Record Tab: At the bottom menu, tap on the ‘Record’ tab.
  3. Access Storage Preferences: Click on the gear icon (Settings), then select Storage Preference.
  4. Switch to iCloud: Change your storage option to iCloud to ensure your recordings are backed up.

Note: If iCloud storage is disabled for Truecaller, go to –
Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Show All > Turn on Truecaller.

  1. Export Individual Recordings: To save specific calls manually, swipe left on a recording, tap Share or Export, and choose your desired location — such as Files, Google Drive, or Email.

This ensures that you don’t lose any important recordings after the feature is removed from the app.

What Should iPhone Users Do Next?

As Apple now integrates native call recording (expected to roll out fully by late 2025), users will eventually be able to rely on system-level features instead of third-party solutions. Until then, backing up your recordings is the best way to retain important data.

If you’re someone who regularly records calls for work or documentation, and need a device that supports such features more flexibly, you might consider switching to Android with call recording compatibility. Platforms like Minto offer a wide range of second hand mobiles online, including models with built-in call recording all at affordable prices.
